Course overview:
Biology 2 continues the study of fundamental biological concepts and further develops scientific inquiry skills, data management and analysis, and communication skills. Key biological principles of structure and function, adaptation, unity, and diversity are investigated through the topics of Human Anatomy and Physiology, Enzymes, Cell Cycle and Genetics. Scientific investigation and inquiry is a primary focus of the course, and students will complete an Independent Research Project during the semester. Biology 2 is strongly recommended for students wishing to pursue IB Biology HL or AP Biology.
Learner outcomes:
Students will:
understand and apply key concepts in each of the content areas covered.
develop investigative and laboratory skills including microscope use.
use critical thinking and communication skills in a range of content and data management scenarios.
engage with scientific learning in a manner that is collaborative and ethical.
Assessment details:
Students will be assessed in the broad learning categories of Knowledge with Understanding and Application, Data Management, and Scientific Inquiry. Achievement in these three areas will be equally weighted.
Knowledge with Understanding and Application is assessed in written exams.
Data Management is tested in written exams and laboratory reports.
Scientific Inquiry is tested in laboratory reports and practical skills.
Habits and Attitudes toward Learning (HAL) will also be assessed and reported.HAL is the component of assessment that addresses daily work habits such as attendance, preparation for class, homework completion, motivation, and behavior.
Learning Resources:
Classroom resources will be available on Google Classroom and the class calendar. Students should bring a calculator, ruler, writing materials, and a charged computer to each class. Logger Pro should be installed and up-to-date.
We look forward to exploring the world of biology with you. Please contact us with any questions and have a wonderful semester!
